Future Full of Hope: A 1% for the Planet Teletherapy Provider

“Just touched ground now / How do we re-attach the roots? I don't mean no metaphor - I'm talking 'bout these packaged foods / Mass-produced /
Who's the most impacted group? Guess - we the Black and blue / Really it's a question that connected to the facts and truth / Land and plants and passionfruits…” Shad, Out of Touch

On the track Out of Touch from Shad’s album TAO released in 2021, Shad alludes to the impact of food insecurity on Black communities. When asked about this track in particular, Shad said, ““It’s about how our individual sense of wholeness can’t be disentangled from our collective well-being. It’s about the idea that we belong to each other.” In the US, Black communities have higher rates of hunger and food insecurity than others, and food insecurities were exacerbated worldwide correlating with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ron Finley Project is a non-profit in South Central LA committed to combatting food insecurity by supporting communities in transforming unused land to food sanctuaries. You can check out their website to learn more and listen to this TED talk given by  the project’s founder in 2013. The Ron Finley Project, whose motto is “Gardening is gangsta,” aims to impact the city of Los Angeles by teaching, empowering, and inspiring people to know their food and where it comes from. Access to food, including fresh vegetables and produce, is essential for wellbeing and Ron’s organization improves community access while simultaneously rejuvenating and repurposing otherwise unused land.

In January 2023 Future Full of Hope, PLLC joined the network of 1% for the Planet Companies, committing to give at least 1% of our total yearly revenue to support environmental solutions. This year our donations are going toward the Ron Finley Project.

At Future Full of Hope, we believe that therapy is a means of empowering individuals to create hope in both their own future and that of the world. We hold a responsibility and a commitment to that belief demonstrated both the quality of our work and in the intention behind our philanthropic giving. You can learn more about my connections to the city of Los Angeles here and here, which are also reasons we’re starting our 1% For the Planet commitment with this organization.
