About Kevin (continued)

“Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is…”

-Jay Z, Public Service Announcement

My love for hip hop often collides with my love for working with people, hence the lyrics integrated throughout my site.  I learned the value of connecting with clients via this common interest as I served youth and families for 9 years within the Los Angeles juvenile justice system (first as direct service provider and later a clinical supervisor). My team and I rolled out a therapeutic music program which taught youth to write, record, and perform rap music in the greater context of hip hop culture.  We used creative expression as a catalyst for clients processing mental health issues (such as trauma and loss, anxiety, depression, anger management, family and peer conflict) and substance abuse recovery. These clients persevered despite community and police violence, economic inequality, structural racism. and other challenges – a living testament to the strength of human resilience.

I work with Creatives, Professionals, and Men because those are life experiences that relate with. I think the human connection between therapist and client is integral to the change process of therapy which is why I’m sharing some of my interests here. In addition to being a hip hop head, I learned to bake bread in early 2020 which became one of my favorite hobbies.  My wife and I are avid hikers and Yosemite is at the top of our list of favorite National Parks. I cheer for University of Illinois athletics and Duke basketball and I self-care by running and lifting weights. I also love Stephen King (and reading in general), TV, movies, and Xbox.

Today I provide therapy across multiple states via telehealth in my private practice Future Full of Hope, PLLC. The idea that the future is full of hope is at the core of my work. In 2018, I saw a billboard posted at Mosaic Los Angeles at the corner of Hollywood and LaBrea which read, “The future is full of hope.”  That message resonated with my core values and has been a personal mantra; I believe that my work empowers clients to create a future full of hope. In 2021, I registered as a licensed mental health provider in Colorado, and in 2022 I expanded again to North Carolina, Oregon and Utah[1]. In 2023, I also became licensed in Massachusetts. I love working as a therapist because I get to join others in discovering hope and in their futures, homes, families, communities, and the world.
